102-Year-Old Resident Treated to the Memory of a Lifetime by Rockland Ridge STNAs

People in the healthcare profession are often asked why this is something they choose to do. The hours can be long, and the stress level is always high. Here at Rockland Ridge, it is important that we hire people whose “why” is aligned with our mission, “Foundations Health Solutions seeks to create a team culture where every member knows their worth, along with the importance of their role in the care of our patients. We are constantly in awe of our people and the care provided here at Rockland. The employees take pride in the care they are giving our residents. The residents become like family. Employees will learn about the residents and what their life was like prior to calling Rockland Ridge their home. Recently, we had two STNAs, Samantha McGee and Grace Packer, who went above and beyond the call of duty and truly embodied our mission.

Samantha and Grace approached our Administrator one afternoon to discuss an idea they had and wanted to see if they could make it happen. One of our residents, Frances, who is 102 years old, always talks about how she and her husband used to go to Grand Central Mall in Parkersburg, West Virginia, every week to eat at Chick-Fil-A. The girls said this is a memory Frances fondly reminisces about, and they would love the opportunity to take her to the mall to eat Chick-Fil-A again.



It was such a special request from the STNAs; it shows they are not only listening to but caring about what the residents are telling them. It is important to them that the quality of our residents’ lives does not diminish just because they have a new place they call home. Our Administrator worked with the Activities Department to make sure this could happen; not only would it be special for Frances, but Samantha and Grace were so passionate about making this happen, our Administrator knew it would be equally special for them as well.

We set a date, and Samantha and Grace meet Frances and the Activity Team at the mall. Not only did Frances get a delicious, hot meal from Chick-Fil-A, but the girls also treated her to a manicure and a few new clothing items. Frances was raving about how it was, “the absolute best day!”

This might seem like a small gesture to some, but it lit up Frances’ world. This is why we do what we do. And Samantha and Grace are exactly the type of considerate and compassionate people we want caring for our loved ones.

Maya Angelou said, “They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” Samantha and Grace – Frances will never forget how you made her feel for a lifetime!
