Employee Spotlight: Amber Lauer and the Heart Behind Her Nursing

Our first Employee Spotlight highlights one of our incredible nurses, Amber Lauer. Amber has been with us since 2023 and is an extremely valuable team member. In fact, she was nominated as our Employee of the Month in May 2024. She is constantly out on the floor, helping with patient care and ensuring everyone gets what they need. Amber is an amazing nurse who will do absolutely anything for her residents. Recently, during one of our resident council meetings, the residents specifically mentioned Amber, expressing how impressed they are with the care, compassion, and kindness she shows not only to them but also to her coworkers.



Being a hard worker has been ingrained in Amber since she was young. In fact, she started working as a CNA at just 16 years old. She continued in that role for roughly 15 years, at which point she decided to further her education and become a nurse. This year marks seven years since Amber became an LPN. She initially took a break from long-term care at the beginning of her nursing career and worked as a correctional nurse for five years. However, she soon realized her heart was in long-term care. We are so thankful for that realization because it became our gain! Once Amber followed her heart, she joined Rockland Ridge and has been an invaluable part of our team ever since.

When we asked Amber what her favorite thing about working in long-term care and at Rockland Ridge was, she said, “My favorite thing is being able to assist my residents in reaching their goals and helping them maintain the quality of life that they want. I enjoy working here because it’s a positive work environment, and I get to build close relationships with colleagues and residents.”

When Amber isn’t working, you can find her at sporting events with her kids or spending time with her dog! If you’ve ever visited Rockland Ridge, you’ve probably met her adorable and fluffy mini cockapoo, Ms. Mabel! The residents absolutely love Mabel’s visits, and their faces light up when they see her coming for some loving and fur baby kisses. Amber is currently working on getting Mabel certified as a therapy dog and has her enrolled in obedience classes.

Amber’s dedication, compassionate care, and joyful presence make her an integral part of our Rockland Ridge family. Her positive impact on our residents, staff, and the entire facility is truly immeasurable. Thank you, Amber, for all you do to make our nursing home a better place every single day!
