Employee Spotlight: Darlene Gum

Meet Darlene Gum, our incredible Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor here at Rockland Ridge! Since joining our team on February 28, 2022, Darlene has brought over a decade of long-term care experience and a heart full of compassion to everything she does.



Before coming to Rockland Ridge, Darlene wore many hats in the caregiving world—working in private home care as a hospitality aide, serving as a patient sitter at Camden Clark Medical Center, and even working as a receptionist. Her well-rounded background is a testament to her dedication and her desire to care for others in every capacity.

For Darlene, working in long-term care is more than just a job—it’s a calling. She finds joy in simply listening to residents, whether they’re sharing cherished memories or talking through tough times. And it doesn’t stop there—Darlene is known for going above and beyond, often surprising residents with small gifts like costume jewelry or fun trinkets that reminded her of them. These thoughtful gestures come straight from the heart, not for recognition, but for the joy it brings to others.

Her kindness shines just as brightly with her coworkers. Darlene values the strong bonds she’s built with the Rockland Ridge team, making her workdays even more meaningful. Outside of work, Darlene stays busy doing what she loves—spending time with her grandson, cheering him on in sports, visiting Amish Country, decorating for every holiday, and tending to her flower gardens. At home, she’s happily surrounded by her two beloved pups, Chloe the teacup Chihuahua and Cormic the Papillon.

And here’s a fun peek into Darlene’s past: she once worked as a Gatorade representative, traveled frequently, grew up on a farm raising animals, and is a certified in-home daycare provider!
