Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund

In light of what’s gearing up to be an impressive Super Bowl LVI, there are some other impressive acts of kindness going on in our own Eastern Local School.
As many know, Cincinnati Bengals' quarterback, Joe Burrow, grew up here in Athens County, Ohio. Using his NFL platform, Joe has shed light on the very real issue of food and basic resource insecurities within rural areas.

During Burrow’s 2019 Heisman Trophy acceptance speech, Burrow stated,
“I’m up here for all those kids in Athens and Athens County that go home to not a lot of food on the table, hungry after school. You guys can be up here, too.” Burrow later explained,
“Growing up, we knew kids that had to go to the food bank because they didn’t have a lot, but nobody really talked about it." Joe began his mission to fight food insecurities in the Appalachian Region with the Joe Burrow Hunger Relief Fund. This has since grown to local schools joining the mission.
In honor of Super Bowl week, Cherise Offenberger, Admissions Director for Rockland Ridge, a Foundations Health Solutions Skilled Nursing Facility, in partnership with local Amedisys hospice liaison and proud Eastern Eagles fan, Kim King, tackled the issue of resource insecurity by donating to Eastern Local School’s pantry. Eastern’s own Superintendent, Nick Detwiller, Principal, Robin Burrow (Joe Burrow’s mother), and students all helped Cherise and Kim identify items needed by their pantry so it could be stocked and given to those who need it most. Kim stated,
“We are honoring what matters most; our patients, their families, and our community”.
“Who dey, who dey, who dey think gonna beat dem Bengals?!”
